In 1999, we received a request to manufacture mandrels—core metal shafts used in the production of carbon fishing rods—entirely with technology from within Iwate Prefecture.
A mandrel is a core metal mold around which carbon sheets are wrapped to form a fishing rod shaft.
This required extremely advanced machining technology to create a precise taper—from the ultra-fine tip to the base—without any distortion.After repeated trial and error, we successfully achieved taper machining ranging from φ0.4 to φ6.0 with a total length of 2 meters in approximately six months.
Based on this experience, we developed the capability to machine long and extremely small-diameter components—something generally considered difficult in machining.
Today, this technology is applied in medical fields and a wide range of precision parts manufacturing.
